Description
Summary:The 25-year period beginning with the Allied occupation of Italy in 1943 and ending with the social upheavals of 1968 witnessed a renaissance of artistic development that touched virtually every part of Italy's culture, with painters like Lucio Fontana challenging painting's two-dimensionality and traditional subject-matter. In the United States, artistic preeminence in the postwar period is generally accorded to Americans; this volume, which includes 20 essays and over 600 color reproductions, demonstrates that in terms of invention and influence Italian artists played a varied and important role during this period.
