John J. Patrick is Director of the Social Studies Development Center, Professor of Education, and Director of the ERIC Clearinghouse for Social Studies/Social Science Education at Indiana University. He is the author of two textbooks, American Political Behavior and History of the American Nation. Richard M. Pious is Professor of Political Science at Barnard College and the Graduate Faculties of Columbia University. He is the author of The American Presidency; The President, Congress and the Constitution; the textbook American Politics and Government; and a biography of Richard Nixon. Donald A.
