Opis
Sažetak:This revised version of Gordon's dissertation (from the joint program of Central Michigan U. and the U. of Strathclyde, Scotland) contains a comparative study of migrant women in three cities: Lowell, Massachusetts; Paisley, Scotland; and Preston, England. The result is a fascinating account of the causes for migration, laws concerning women, public opinion in their adopted town, and other challenges faced by lower class migrant women in nineteenth-century mill towns.
